Point and Non Point Pollution
|
Point source pollution is pollution that comes from a single source, such as a factory or wastewater treatment plant. The Clean Water Act put restrictions on how much and what kind of pollutants industries can dispose of in rivers and lakes. This hasn't stopped industrial or domestic waste from entering our waters completely, it has reduced what once was our biggest source of water pollution.
Non-point source pollution does not have one specific source, such as a factory. Non-point source pollution comes from the all of a region's residents going about their everyday activities, such as fertilizing a lawn or cleaning a car.

1. Use less water
This might sound simple, but decreasing your water consumption is one of the keys to minimizing water pollution. By reducing the amount of water you use, you will reduce the amount of water that flows into sewage treatment systems. You can decrease your water consumption by taking a shower instead of a bath, turning the water off while you’re brushing your teeth, and using natural landscaping so you don’t have to water your lawn. |

Pollution likely affects over a billion people around the world, with millions poisoned and killed each year. The World Heath Organization estimates that 25 percent of all deaths in the developing world could be from pollution. Some researchers estimate that pollution causes 40 percent of deaths annually.
Although it covers more than 70% of the Earth, water is one of the most precious natural resources of our planet. The reason being 97% of the total water is salty, 2% is in glaciers and polar ice caps, so only 1% is useful for consumption. Apart from clean drinking water, we also need to keep the waters in the oceans, rivers, and lakes unpolluted because it harms the very planet we survive in. With human population increasing water all over the world are getting polluted harming the environment.
